Benefits of Lemon Water

Benefits of Drinking Lemon Water

Before you reach for that diet soda, juice, or even that horrible for you energy drink, rethink your choice! Lemon water, not lemonade, is a great way to promote hydration, make sure you’re getting your daily allowance of vitamin C, and aid digestion!

How to Make Lemon Water:

  • Making lemon water is simple, you just have to mix lemon juice with 8 oz of warm or cold filtered water and you're all set to go.

Here are just a few reasons why you should drink lemon water:

  • Metabolism Booster
    • A study found1 that drinking 16 ounces of water boosted metabolic rates in the body by 30% just 30 - 40 minutes after drinking it. Adding lemon to water makes you more likely to drink the water and get your metabolism running better than before!
  • Helps You Shed Weight
    • One lemon has 17 calories in it, meaning that if you take the juice of just one lemon and make two servings of lemon water with that, you'll have just 17 calories in two drinks! For comparison
    • Drinking lemon water instead of a diet soda helps you stay away from artificial sweeteners such as sucralose! Sure diet soda doesn’t have calories, but it sure is full of chemicals.
  • Promotes Hydration
    • Mayo Clinic2 recommends that everyone should be drinking about a gallon of water per day, and if you are exercising and living an active lifestyle, you'll need a lot more than a gallon per day. Switching out your diet soda or juice for an lemon water will ensure that you are staying on track towards your hydration goals.
  • Prevents Kidney Stones
    • Citric acid that is present in lemons can help prevent and break up certain types of kidney stones. Studies have shown that four ounces of any citric acid such as lemon juice or orange juice can increase citrate levels in your urine and help get rid of those pesky kidney stones.

Lemon water is a fantastic addition to your daily routine and can provide a variety of benefits such as: improved hydration, weight loss, boosted metabolism, and prevention of kidney stones. It may not taste as great as lemonade but is free of all of the artificial sweeteners and sugar that most lemonades have! Flavored water such as lemon water is a great way to help ensure that you are staying on track to drinking the recommended amount of water per day and staying hydrated.
